01 July, 2014

At Internet site АЛЛЕЯРОССИИ.РФ online voting has started for green symbols of the country.

The voting is held within the nationwide action "The Alley of Russia". The creation of a new park representing the diversity of the natural world of Russia in Sevastopol will become the final round of the project.

The action was initiated by the Ministry of natural resources and ecology of Russian Federation and the Foundation for promotion of environmental protection "The Nature".

The project ai aimed at green symbols to become such an integral part of the image of Russian regions as their architectural or historic monuments are today.

In preparation for the project implementation, in all regions of Russian Federation working groups were organized with participation of scientists-biologists, ecologists, local historians.

The final list of "candidates" includes more than 400 plants – from three to seven in each region.

Those are trees, bushes, grasses and flowers traditionally associated with a region, its nature, history, culture and those that are of particular importance for people of a region.

From July 1 to August 31 any citizen of Russia may make decision what plant is worthy to represent a region by voting online at АЛЛЕЯРОССИИ.РФ (the site-mirror is RUSPRIRODA.RU).

It is expected that up to 30 million people will take part in voting.

In upcoming autumn, representatives of regions will lay their micro-gardens in Victory Park of the city of Sevastopol.

Not only plants but other symbols of regions may be presented.

In that way Russia in miniature will be created where in few minutes one may walk from Kaliningrad to Sakhalin.

"The Alley of Russia" in Sevastopol will welcome its first guetss in May next year. Similar parks and gardens are proposed to be placed in other regions of Russia, too.
